No Complaining, Just Crying

To start, I can't believe I even have a moment to blog....but some things you just have to share.

So, this morning I was making the list of phone calls to all of our local bill companies (you know, utilities, gas, phone) to have them all transferred to our new address. Anyway, I called most of them already, because I am a little more than on top of this move, and the last one on my list was Qwest (our phone company). We have decided to cancel our Internet with them and so I was leaving this phone call for last, knowing I would have to deal with the 'what can we do to keep you' sales pitch. So, I call up Qwest and this nice guy by the name of Patrick takes my call. I go on to tell him that we are moving and would like to transfer our home phone but cancel our Internet. He asks me why I would want to do such a thing and I tell him that it's something only my husband could explain (something to do with needing to have cable Internet so we can access some sort of line for our home server...no idea). Anyway, he tells me that we are locked in a two year contract and that if we want to cancel it will be a $200 fee (more than we are taking to our closing!). I instantly start crying...hard...on the phone...with the Qwest guy! No idea why I was so emotional, maybe its the moving and packing and all of that excitement and all of the money it takes to buy a house...who knows. So, here I am crying on the phone and unable to get myself under control, finally I tell him that it is impossible that we are under a contract. We signed up for service through a third party contracted by our apartment complex and she assured us we would not be held to any contractual agreement. I don't think he really cared about my story...but the crying must have really got to him because he cancelled our Internet, transferred our home phone, waived the set up fee and waived the cancellation fee.
